New Planner for Danby

The Town of Danby is hiring a new Planner. This is a great opportunity for someone excited to work on planning and implementation for the rejuvenation and incremental infill of Danby’s hamlets and the conservation and preservation of the Town’s rural and wild areas. The position has broad responsibility and autonomy, and includes managing the development review process and boards, managing grant programs including a consultant led CDBG Homeowner Rehab program, and acting as the Zoning & Stormwater Officer. Currently, the Planning Office includes the Planner and a part-time administrative assistant. In Town Hall, the Planner works closely with the Code Officer, the Clerks, and the Records Manager/Historian.

Danby is a progressive Town that’s done the good work of adopting smart growth policies including no parking requirements or minimum lot size in hamlets, 1-4 dwelling units by right in the hamlets, and large lot sizes and conservation controls in rural parts of the Town as well as a growing portfolio of conservation easements.

New work to take on in the near future includes development of a new Comprehensive Plan (the current plan was amended in 2011 but is mostly from 2003), economic development activities, and managing utility scale solar project review and construction.

This is a great career building role because you have a finger in a little bit of everything but the pace of projects is manageable. It’s been a great place to work, the benefits are truly excellent and the salary is quite competitive. The current budget year includes a substantial set-aside for training if there is one or more of the above areas the ideal candidate is not already experienced with.
