SENIOR PLANNER
JEFFERSON COUNTY
The Jefferson County Department of Planning is seeking a qualified person to fill a senior-level position. Responsibilities include: providing oversight for County-level planning, development, and housing programs, and conducting comprehensive land use planning and development activities in local communities.
Come to beautiful Jefferson County, nestled between the shores of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River, the Tug Hill Region, and the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The area offers boating, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, camping, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, and a castle all within minutes. There are numerous NYS Parks and campgrounds within the county. With a large agricultural community you have access to fresh vegetables, award winning dairy products, and meats. Also there are numerous wineries and distilleries. Fort Drum is located in the County with many of the military families living in the local communities. The City of Syracuse is 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hour drive away, Canada is 5 to 45 minutes, and Lake Placid, home to the 1980 Olympics USA Miracle on Ice is only 2 1/2 to 3 hours away.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a master’s degree and two years of experience in municipal, community, regional, environmental, or transportation planning; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s and three years of experience in (A) above; OR
- An equivalent combination of experience and training as outlined in (A), and (B)
NOTE: Candidates will be required to submit a college transcript with their application.
Salary: $32.88 – $42.17/hr. with excellent fringe benefits including health, vision and dental insurance, Flex Spending Account, NYS Retirement, Deferred Compensation, paid vacation and sick leave. Civil Service exam required for permanent appointment. EOE
