GIS TECHNICIAN
GRADE 12
ORANGE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING
The Orange County Department of Planning is now accepting applications to fill the position of GIS Technician. This position is allocated in the Competitive Class. The nature of the appointment is provis onal pending outcome of the Civil Service Examination Process. Civil Service Examination will be announced at a later date.
This work involves responsibility for performance of technical work related to geographical information systems including collecting and reviewing source data, updating and maintaining central GIS database, and assisting in the completion of various GIS mapping in support of County and municipal needs and services. The work involves the use of multiple GIS software programs in performing tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level official in accordance with established policies and procedures with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
(A) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in Urban, Regional or Municipal Planning, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Cartography or related field; OR
(B) Completion of sixty (60) and two (2) years experience developing and maintaining geographical information systems.
Note: Your degree or credits must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree or credits were awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION IS A REQUIREMENT FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT
STARTING SALARY: New Employees – $28.8449; $52,497.72 annually
County Employees – As per CSEA contract for Grade 12
