NYS DOS Revitalization Specialist 1

The NYS Department of State is in the midst of a downtown revitalization and community development renaissance.  Join us and be a part of this exciting movement! We are looking for a talented, motivated and innovative planner to join the team at the DOS Office of Planning, Development and Community Infrastructure (OPD+CI) as a Revitalization Specialist.   Revitalization Specialists play a key role in important government programs that directly and positively impact people’s lives and communities. In this position, you will be engaged in nearly every aspect of community development—housing; infrastructure; public health; environmental sustainability; climate resiliency; social and economic equity; and much more.

The Revitalization Specialist is grounded primarily in the implementation of two of the State’s most effective and influential programs–the Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) program and the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI).  The BOA program is breathing new life into previously neglected and contaminated communities and overcoming environmental injustices of the past.  And the DRI has thus far provided a $10 million grant to each of 40 communities throughout the State to re-imagine and revitalize their downtowns–the heart and soul of their communities.

The Revitalization Specialist position has also evolved as State policy priorities evolve. Climate change and equity are priority issues for the State, and the OPD+CI stands at the forefront of the smart growth movement. We are developing and launching new programs and grants to help communities develop smart, sustainable and equitable comprehensive plans.

This is a competitive position that accepts qualified applicants from within State services and who have taken the state exam as well as those who have not yet taken the exam for this title series.
